What makes North Metro septic its own discipline

Most North Metro failures start with the same three things: clay, slope and a permit nobody read.

Percolation in Piedmont clay is slow, lots are steep, and county rules differ across Cherokee, Forsyth, Dawson and Hall. Knowing which applies to your parcel changes what a repair costs.

Cross-section of a hillside lot in clay: effluent leaves the tank into a drain field cut into slow-draining red clay, where water moves sideways along the slope rather than down.
In clay, water leaves the trench sideways rather than down. On a slope that means it surfaces downhill.

Why here is different

Red clay doesn't drain. It stores, then it sheds.

Piedmont clay absorbs slowly and releases slowly. After a wet week the soil around a trench is already saturated, so the next load has nowhere to go but sideways — and on these lots, sideways is downhill toward someone's yard.

It is why a system that passed a perc test in August struggles in March, and why replacement here is a design question before it is a digging one.
