Typical components
- Utility tap / impact / connection fee — set by the utility, often the largest line
- Lateral installation — plumber, by distance and obstacles
- Tank abandonment — septic contractor, pump-out plus crush/fill, permitted
- Restoration — driveway, yard, landscaping
When it beats a new drain field: if a main is at the street and the field has failed, connection is often cheaper than — and it ends the septic maintenance cycle permanently. When it doesn't: a long lateral, a lift pump because the house sits below the main, or no main within reach.
